Poetry is About Life and Love

Good Morning Readers:

Some of the poets I like to talk about, are from the Romantic period, 1750s to 1820s.    When reference is made to Romantic verse, the poets who generally spring to mind are William Blake (1757-1827), William Wordsworth (1770-1850), Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), George Gordon, 6th Lord Byron (1788-1824), Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) and John Keats (1795-1821).

These poets found solace and immeasurable beauty in the countryside. It uplifted them.  This is what moved them to write the poetry many of us know and love.  It is lyrical and beautiful, and sometimes sad.

Reading  English Literature, and reading the poetry of the romantic age, you will be uplifted with the beauty, the poets saw and felt.  Having knowledge, take us down paths that perhaps we may not have trodden otherwise.

The poetry of love is so important.  From learning poetry at school, or reading English Literature,  it has become part of our DNA, and thus,  has never left us.  This is when we realise that we find the comfort of poetry, when we can quote a verse to fit an occasion, in our lives.

The poets of yesteryear were brilliant. They gave us an insight into the beauty of nature.  This is a gift that is very precious.  Poets write their thoughts about love, with all its different facets.  When we find love, we want to write about it, and this becomes a poem.  Each and every one of us can write about love.  Conversely, we can also write about the loss of love, and also sadly, the loss of a loved one.

Poetry becomes our friend.  It is natural to pick up pen and paper and write words and thoughts about how we are feeling.

This expression of our thoughts is a good thing, as we find solace and joy in doing so.

I hope you will buy my poetry books, “The Mists of Time”, and/or “Waking Up to Beauty”.  Many of the poems are about nature, love, war and climate change.
