Good Morning Readers,
This is a question that is asked quite often.
Beauty induces us to want to write or paint because of the magnificence of
nature which is before our eyes. This promotes emotional feelings that are
translated into poetry. This could also be said of the artists, like the
Impressionists.
The definition of romanticism is a state of being
romantic or affectionate in a sentimental way, or an 18th century movement in
the arts and literature that emphasised nature, imagination, emotion and the
individual.
Impressionism began to take shape in the 1860s on
the canvases of Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir and
others. They shared their knowledge in the discovery of a new technique,
one that didn’t take as much time, and was painted outdoors, and was usually
finished on the same day. This was a revolution, in the world of art in the
mid-1800s.
Claude Monet was, in almost every sense, the
founder of the French Impressionist movement. The term itself coming from
one of his paintings, ‘Impression, sunrise’. This technique is called Tachism. (Tache means
“spot” or “blot” in French). This technique was painting in small patches
of colour, dabbing the canvas, not using broad brush strokes. The
Impressionists modified this technique, little by little, and gradually
the colour patches became smaller patches, flecks, and dabs of colour.
This group of artists included Monet, Renoir,
Degas, Manet, Alfred Sisley, Émile Zola, and Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro,
and others. They became known as the Impressionists. This was
because their paintings gave an ‘impression’ of the scene they were painting.
Some critics, at the time, felt the style was unusual. But this
style of painting, became a hit. Not straight away, but petit à petit;
meaning, in English, little by little.
I do think that learning poetry or taking art
classes when one is young, does have its advantages. Reading about the poets
who have written magnificent poetry and getting to know about them, gives
us an awareness of knowing who they are and why they wrote the poetry they
did. The history does help us to understand the mind of the poet and the
poetry.
My poetry book, ‘The Mists of Time’,
was published by Austin Macauley Publishers, in April, ’21. Perhaps
you may buy it and, if so, I hope you will enjoy it, and write a book review on
the following website:

There is also an e-book format which you may
prefer.
I hope you are all keeping well and will continue
to enjoy reading about literature and the arts. Best wishes,
Anne
