Good Morning Readers,
Tasmanian film-maker Oliver Cassidy reflects on his
father’s journey down the Franklin River in Tasmania at Rock Island Bend. This
is the story of Australia’s most significant environmental battle.
Oliver’s goal is to retrace his late father’s
14-day expedition down the Franklin River, to attend the blockade that
saved the World-Heritage listed national park from being destroyed by a huge
hydroelectric dam project in the early 1980s.
Rock Island Bend was the defining symbol of the
successful campaign to prevent the damming of the Franklin River for
hydro-electric development. The image was used as a full-page advertisement in
major Australian newspapers in the lead-up to the pivotal 1983 Federal
election, with the caption “Could you vote for a party that would destroy
this?”
So, Readers, there is much more to this story, but
it shows us how important it is for people to preserve beauty wherever they see
it.
This leads me to tell you about my latest poetry
book called, ‘Waking Up to Beauty’. In the book, the poetry speaks about
nature, about kayaking, and forest scenery, and scenery in the canyons.
A poem in my book called, ‘Our Planet, This Earth’,
speaks about nurturing our land, and the trees and letting the rivers run their
course. Nature is important to me as I’m sure it is to you
too. Nature and its beauty, gives us something special in our
lives. It renews our souls and thus gives us a power to want to preserve
our national parks, and also to maintain our beautiful countryside, wherever
you live.
I hope you will buy my poetry book, because,
‘Waking Up to Beauty’, gives us inspiration as we walk through beauty, wherever
you find it. Man must not destroy our beautiful assets, for greed
and wealth. We must all be responsible for keeping our planet habitable
to pass on to the coming generations.
I do hope you will watch out for the upcoming film,
called, ‘Franklin’. This will inspire you and move you. It will
teach you too, that beauty is worth saving in every corner of the world.
My book is available at online bookstores, and you
can order it locally too. You may prefer to buy the ePub version, for
convenience. If you like my book, please write a review. This is
easy and it may also help others to want to buy it.
Thank you for visiting my website. Until next
time…..
Best wishes,
Anne
