THE ENJOYMENT OF POETRY

Good morning Readers:

I know you visit my website to learn more about poetry; remember, poetry is to be enjoyed and embraced.

I hope you have been enjoying reading poetry these past months, and that it has given you pleasure to sit quietly, whether outside in the garden, or perhaps on a picnic with a friend or sitting beside the sea, watching the waves, or under the shade of a beautiful tree, and reading a poem or two, in such a tranquil setting. This allows your mind to relax, and enjoy a moment in time, when your thoughts are once more transported away in the magic of poetry.

Perhaps you have been reading published collections of poetry, an anthology; the poems may be by different poets or the same poet. This is a great way of introducing you to a variety of poetry, where you have probably found a favourite poet or two by now.

When you read poetry, sometimes read it out aloud to feel the rhythm, which will help you to get to know the poem, and it will become more palpable. I have mentioned before, that if you read a poem that you like, but you want to understand the meaning of it more, then you can re-read it, until you find the true meaning of the words; and it may become one of your favourites.

I think I’m trying to say, that a poem can become ‘an old friend’. Sometimes, during conversation, you might like to turn your mind to a few of the lines of a particular poem , yes, even quote a line or two, that you feel is fitting at a particular moment. Rick Stein, the English Celebrity Chef, often quoted a poem, that he felt was appropriate, when he was making some of his television cooking programs. I really liked this.

I wonder if any of you have written any poetry, recently. It would be really great if you have. You may be able to submit your work for publication. It would be a great achievement. As I have said before, poetry is a great genre and a way to express your feelings. Your own poems will tell your individual stories.

My own poetry book, ‘The Mists of Time’, was published by Austin Macauley Publishers, April 30, 2021, You can buy it, or the e-book format, online on the Austin Macauley’s website:

Enjoy your day.

Best wishes,
Anne
