WHEN YOU BUY A POETRY BOOK

When you buy a poetry book, don’t just hurry to read it all at once, and afterwards put in on the bookshelf at home and forget it is there. Read a little bit at a time, when you feel like it.

It’s like a fine wine, do not hurry it; take small sips, appreciating it little by little. Eventually you come to the end, the glass is empty and you are sorry. But, you do have the memories of the beautiful glass of wine you enjoyed with your friends and family. As you think about the poetry you have just read, the memories are still there, and you want to return to ponder over them, now and again.

Enjoyment and appreciation is something we need to learn. It takes time to learn how to appreciate a good wine, or to appreciate a good person. It takes time to get to know and appreciate the finer things in life. For this, we must make time.

When reading poetry, don’t rush it, take your time. If you lead a busy life, then of course, poetry has to take a back seat, until you find a well deserved moment to yourself. Brew a cup of coffee, sit by the fireside or relax by the pool, or take a walk beside the lake; take out the poetry book you were reading, and just forget about the world out there, and take the time to drink in the poems and their stories and the pictures they paint in your mind.

Poetry is a great topic to talk about with your girlfriend or boyfriend. Think which poem you may like the most, and why. Yes, it is good to question and to think and absorb the poems and what they say to you.

And when you do come to the end of the poems, and you place the book on your bookshelf, then hopefully, you will think about the poetry and take it off the shelf now and again to re-read and enjoy.

I hope that you may choose to buy my poetry book, it’s called The Mists of Time, and was published by Austin Macauley Publishers, April 30, 2021.

The poems in my book are for all ages. Even if you have not read very much poetry in the past, it is never too late to start. Take the family and choose a poetry book or two, perhaps one of them might be mine, The Mists of Time.

Please don’t forget to write a review of The Mists of Time.

Au revoir
